Man tries to abduct 10-year-old girl, doesn’t realize dog is watching her back

We’ve all heard the old adage, “A dog is a man’s best friend.” Luckily, this wasn’t true in Virginia on July 28th, when a man was trying to kidnap a little girl.

A 10-year-old girl was physically assaulted by an unknown man as she walked her dog through her neighborhood around 3:45pm. When the man grabbed her arm, the dog bit the man, causing him to release her and flee the scene. The girl was not injured.

The Prince William County Police Department reported the incident on their Facebook:

“*INCIDENT: Attempted Abduction | Woodbridge;
At approximately 3:50pm, the victim, a 10-year-old girl, was reportedly walking her dog in the 1800 block of Heather Glenn Ct in Woodbridge when an unknown man approached her and grabbed her arm. During the encounter, the victim’s dog bit the suspect who then released her and fled on foot. A police K-9 checked the area. The suspect was not located. The victim was not injured. The investigation continues.
Suspect Lookout:
Hispanic male, unknown age, 5’3″, 145lbs with a thin build, short brown hair and a goatee. Last seen wearing a white striped shirt and light colored long pants.”

The post has since been shared almost 500 times, with internet users heaping praise on the heroic dog, who may have saved the girl’s life.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like authorities were ever able to find the attempted kidnapper. They searched the neighborhood with a K-9 unit, but to no avail.

If you or anyone you know has information about the man or the incident, call the Prince William County Police Department at (703) 792-6500.

This is one of many situations in which a girl or woman’s trusty canine companion saves her from the predatory advances of suspicious men.

Last October, a pit bull named Apollo saved a teenage girl from being raped in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn. He bit the attacker’s leg before catching up with his fleeing owner.

The next month, a mother of three in the U.K. was saved from a rapist by her loyal pet staffie Lola. Her assailant snuck up behind her, pulled her into the dark, and covered her mouth so that she couldn’t call for help. Luckily, Lola was there; she sunk her teeth into the man’s arm and he ran off.

So maybe it’s time to change the saying- seems like a dog is a woman‘s best friend, too!
