This is what doctors say stops mosquito bites better than repellents

During the spring and summer mosquito bites can be a constant irritation – the menacing buzz of the winged insects can signal days of irritation and itchy red marks.

But mosquitos don’t just cause minor irritations, in fact, according to the World Health Organization, the mosquito is actually considered to be the most dangerous animal in the world. We may think of it as a pesky insect, but it spreads the deadly malaria virus – which kills 440,000 people every year.

Although we may all eagerly be waiting for the dark winter months to end, no one looks forward to the bugs that often come with the warm weather and many of us dread them arriving.

And applying toxic repellents isn’t the most pleasant experience, and some of the toxins in them aren’t the best for us either. But they seem to be the only solution to avoiding those nasty red bites, which sometimes only appear a day or two later.

But there’s actually a simple home remedy that doctors say is more effective than repellents – which means we don’t have to lose that repellent power just because we’ve gone natural. Needless to say, when I heard this, I was very excited!

By combining a blend of lemon and eucalyptus oils, it’s simple to create a deterrent that is both powerful and completely natural.

According to research from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, some popular repellents give 84 per cent protection against mosquitos across four hours, but this simple home remedy provides a staggering 97 per cent protection. That’s right, 97 per cent!

Creating this powerful repellent is easy, it only requires a few ingredients which you mix together.

You’ll need:

  • 30 drops of lemon-eucalyptus essential oil blend.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces rubbing alcohol or witch hazel.

The best place to mix the ingredients together is in a small spray bottle, so it’s then easy to apply and protect yourself and others from those nasty bites.

No one likes getting bitten by these irritating insects, but using the recipe above will give protection against them for about four hours – so don’t forget to reapply!
