Humpback whales are incredibly massive and majestic creatures and to see them in action is truly something else! A 40-ton whale swimming in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Mbotyi gave some sea-loving spectators a display of a lifetime when it leapt completely out of the water.
Craig Capehart, a scuba diver who was reportedly sitting in a “rubber duck” inflatable boat among his fellow scuba divers, caught the magnificent mammal in action and the impressive footage has gone viral! “It seems that never before has a recording been made of an adult humpback whale leaping entirely out of the water! A very rare event, indeed,” wrote Capehart in the video’s caption. “Dolphins and even Great White Sharks have been seen flying out of the water, but this is a first for an adult humpback whale!”
According to Bored Panda, “the average weight of a fully grown adult is around 36,000kg, which is about the same weight as 24 adult hippos.”
