Deputies pull over stolen trailer, discover 18,000 pounds of ‘bathroom paper products’

Police in North Carolina recently made a large bust, but it didn’t involve drugs or weapons. It was… toilet paper and lots of it.

On March 18, deputies with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office spotted an 18-wheeler on Interstate 40 that they believed was suspicious. They followed it to a warehouse where they confronted the driver, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The deputies were able to determine that the vehicle’s 53-foot trailer had been reported stolen locally.

When they looked inside the trailer, they discovered it was being used to haul 18,000 pounds of bathroom paper products – a very hot commodity nowadays.

The paper and other commercial products were legal, it was the trailer that was stolen, Capt. Daryl Loftis told WSPA.

It was “legitimate cargo going to a legitimate place.”

Deputies arranged to have the cargo delivered to its final destination.

According to the police, the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
