Following the COVID-19 coronavirus, Italy has been in a national quarantine since March 9th.
But despite the terrible situation, it has had a positive impact on nature.
Pollution has decreased, the sky is clearer, and the water is cleaner.
This can especially be seen in Venice, the beautiful Italian city where millions of tourists travel each year.
Because the city is such a large scale tourist attraction, the canals which run around and through the city fill with litter and dirt.
But now, when no one can go outside their door, even less travel to the city, the canals look like never before, according to The Independent.
Wildlife has returned to Venice, and the water is so clear that you can see the bottom of the canal.
But there aren’t just fish swimming through the beautiful city.
W Magazine reports, as well as ABC, that there’s been dolphins in the Venetian lagoon, close to the port of Venice.
“Dolphins in the port of Cagliari, ducks in the fountains in Rome, Venice canals have now clean water full of fishes. Air pollution dropped. Nature is reclaiming its spaces during quarantine in Italy”, one Twitter user wrote.
This truly shows the human impact on nature.
I really hope the coronavirus pandemic is over soon, but I also pray, hoping that we learn from this. We need to take care about our beloved planet.
