China is the biggest producer of rice. Each year, around 200 million tons of rice is collected in China, and a great deal of it is exported in different countries.
However, as reported by The Korea Times, a problem is now arising because a lot of pesticides are included in the Chinese agriculture and some rice is artificially made. The artificial rice is actually made from plastic mixed with potato starch and kernels that only have the shape of rice. A rice aroma is also added to the grains through steaming. Medical experts say that the consumption of 3 portions of this rice is the same as the consumption of a little plastic bag.
In this article we are going to show you how to know if your rice is plastic.
1. The water test
Take a glass filled with cold water and put 1 tablespoon of uncooked rice in it. If the rice sinks down, it means that it is okay, but if it stays at the top of the water, it means that it contains plastic.
2. The fire test
Set a bit of rice on fire and check if it burns immediately and smells like plastic. In that case you should not eat it.
3. The mortar and pestle test
Crush some rice with mortar and pestle and if it becomes a white starchy powder it means that it is okay. If it shows a light yellow discoloration it means that it is plastic.
4. The mold test
Cook some rice and put it in an airtight container. Let it stay in a warm area and after a couple of days check if the rice is musty. If it isn’t, it means that it is artificial.
This is practically everything you need to know in order to recognize whether your rice is good or plastic.
