Manchester United close to Nemanja Matic transfer and more rumours

Manchester United players will come face-to-face with Jose Mourinho two weeks on Saturday but he might have already decided on two players’ futures.

Luke Shaw and Ashley Young have reportedly been told they will travel to the States for United’s pre-season tour even though they might not play due to their injuries.

Both were on crutches at the Europa League final and are technically out of contract next year but Mourinho’s insistence suggests he could keep Young and Shaw next season.

The M.E.N. wrote in March Mourinho planned to keep Shaw despite a tough campaign and last week revealed the left-back had returned to Carrington , along with Young.

It is also understood Mourinho is yet to inform the outgoing United players they are free to leave the club , with the exception of Wayne Rooney, if he wants to leave.

Should Shaw and Young remain at United then the club might not recruit a new full-back in the transfer window. St Etienne’s Kevin Malcuit, Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier and Celtic teenager Kieran Tierney have all come under consideration but could remain at their clubs.

United could also be close to announcing their second signing. The M.E.N. revealed last month Nemanja Matic was keen on reuniting with Mourinho and suggested earlier this week Tiemoue Bakayoko’s protracted move to Chelsea could prompt the Serbian to join United and that is one of the lines in today’s Mail.

Matic, 28, started 30 of champions Chelsea’s 38 Premier League fixtures last season and played a crucial role in their 2014-15 triumph under Mourinho. The United manager is intent on signing a defensive midfielder to free Paul Pogba and Bakayoko has also been under consideration.

Gazzetta have a familiar line on Ivan Perisic, which is that Mourinho wants United to complete his transfer before the club flies to the United States for their pre-season tour on July 9.

Perisic, also 28, wants to join United but the club is yet to meet Internazionale’s valuation – reported to be £44m – of the Croatia international.

On Wednesday, Sky Sports News understood Robert Lewandowski was in talks with United and Chelsea and later during the day Sky Sports News reported there were no talks between the Poland striker and United and Chelsea. The real winners? Sky’s betting partner.

The Sun writes United will go ‘all out’ for Alvaro Morata after Cristiano Ronaldo cooled down following his recent strop. The M.E.N. wrote last week that sources close to Morata expect him to join United .

Adnan Januzaj has almost certainly played his last United game and the Belgian is set to permanently join Real Sociedad for £9m. Januzaj, 22, is out of contract at Old Trafford next year.
