In his most recent press conference, Governor Andrew Cuomo avoids the possibility of impeachment by reporting his resignation on August 10. Cuomo said that he is “stepping aside” from office after an investigative report has found that New York governor Andrew Cuomo did, in fact, create a “hostile work environment.”
As Mamas Uncut reported, the investigative report headed by Attorney General Letitia James and come after a slew of accusations from multiple women. According to the investigation, it “revealed conduct that corrodes the very fabric and character of our state government and shines a light on the injustice that can be present at the highest levels of government.”
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Resigns
During his statement, Cuomo said that it was “his ‘instinct’ to fight through the controversy and the sexual assault allegations against him,” CNN reported. However, he later admitted that that “would only generate ‘months of political and legal controversy.’”

“I’m a new Yorker, born and bred,” Cuomo continued. “I’m a fighter and my instinct is to fight through this controversy because I truly believe it is politically motivated, I believe it is unfair and it is untruthful and I believe it demonizes behavior that is unsustainable for society.”
“This situation by its current trajectory will generate months of political and legal controversy. That is what is going to happen. That is how the political wind is blowing. It will consume government. It will cost taxpayers millions of dollars.”
Since the first accusation, Cuomo has maintained his innocence saying, “I did not do what has been alleged, period. I won’t speculate about people’s possible motives, but I can tell you as a former attorney general who has gone through this situation many times, there are often many motivations for making an allegation, and that is why you need to know the facts before you make a decision.”
However, his resignation comes just days after the woman who initially accused Cuomo publicly came forward to speak on his alleged inappropriate behavior publicly. Brittany Commisso was previously identified as “executive assistant #1” in New York Attorney General Letitia James‘ report.
In her interview with CBS This Morning, Commisso said what Cuomo “did to me was a crime. He broke the law. There started to be hugs with kisses on the cheek, and then there was at one point a hug, and then when he went to go kiss me on the cheek, he’d quickly turned his head and he kissed me on the lips.”

“I didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything this whole time. People don’t understand that this is the Governor of the state of New York. There are troopers that are outside of the mansion and there are some mansion staff. Those troopers that are there, they are not there to protect me. They are there to protect him.”
Now, Cuomo says that he realizes “some of his conduct is insensitive” and admitted that he “takes full responsibility for my actions,” according to CNN. He then went on to admit that his sense of humor can be “insensitive and off-putting,” before acknowledging that he hugs and kisses both men and women “casually.”
“I have done it all my life,” Andrew Cuomo wrote. “It’s who I have been since I can remember. In my mind, I have never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate – and I should have. No excuses.”
Over the last several days, officials were looking into bringing charges again Cuomo for his actions. It’s unclear if he could still face charges following his resignation.
