Young brothers die in car crash after taking their grandmother’s car

Two young children from Missouri are dead after the car they were driving crashed and caught fire.

According to KMOV, the boys, ages 6 and 7, took their grandmother’s 2007 Buick LaCrosse and drove through a field before driving on a county road in an area east of Kansas City, Missouri.

Missouri Highway Patrol said the 7-year-old was driving at a high rate of speed when the car became airborne. The car hit a guardrail then hit the ground before going airborne where it struck a wire, hit a tree and landed on its roof.

The car caught fire.

Unfortunately, the boys were pronounced dead at the scene.

“We believe that speed had to have been a contributing factor for them to have traveled, flipped, et cetera,” Sgt. Andy Bell, a spokesperson for the highway patrol said, according to TODAY.

The accident occurred weeks after a 5-year-old stole his parents’ car and was later rewarded for his actions. Thankfully, the 5-year-old nor anyone else was injured at the time.

This is such a terrible accident that could have been prevented. Please keep your keys out of reach from small children and remember to lock the doors on your vehicle.

Right now this family needs our prayers.
